A young woman arrives at a rural church claiming sanctuary for her crime. Confronted with the unthinkable, it lies with the priest and the parish to grapple with who she is and what she’s done. As tensions grow outside the church’s walls, connections are made within the threaten to unravel the fragile order of this community.
Set in Dorset in 1502 and following forty days of quiet upheaval, Sanctuary asks what we will sacrifice to safety and to freedom. It explores the possibility of autonomy as rebellion, and connection as liberation.
